Me and my Caterpillars

Hi there! My name is Nazokat and I teach ESL for pre-K and Kindergarten kids using Montessori and STEAM methods of teaching.  In my lessons, I help young learners to connect the real world with the classroom. Hands-on activities, various science experiments, playful learning, and math will make kids' learning colorful and exciting.

I studied and finished my bachelor's in International hospitality and tourism management in the Management Development Institute of Singapore in Tashkent. I have experience of working in a hotel for 3 years during my studies and after finishing university.  I used to teach IELTS and general English when I was a student starting from 2011-2015 and I never thought that teaching will be my future profession. I have never thought about teaching kids and it seemed to me that teaching kids is very hard and boring unless I had my first baby boy. As he grew, I started teaching him shapes, and colors by playing.  After a year or so, during my maternity leave, I thought about opening my own preschool for kids and I started my small business.

This blog reflects my online teaching with preschoolers. Further, in other blogs, I share easy and tough sides to teaching kids using LMS. After quarantine time last year, the need for an online teaching mode increased considerably and I decided to try ESL with STEAM in online mode.

Tracing letters is a lot fun using pasta, magnet dots, body parts, a geoboard, and colored extra salt. These methods improve students' fine motor skills and are much more exciting than traditional tracing with a pen. Furthermore, doing some engineering for letter learning will also teach students the letters and the words which start with that letter. Thus kids are enlarging their general knowledge too.

We also do some science stuff in the classroom connecting them to the topic that we are learning. Science education activities provide children with opportunities to develop and practice many different skills and attributes. These include communication skills, collaborative skills, team working and perseverance, as well as analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills. Help them expand their vocabulary by using scientific terms that are appropriate for their age group. Encourage them to extend and embed their learning through related literacy, numeracy and creative activities.

The LMS I chose

I thought teaching English to kids online using STEAM is impossible unless I bumped into this wonderful site.  I first heard about seesaw when my lecturer recommended it to me, I had no idea that I would be amazed. Eurica! That LMS was the one that I was looking for! Surprisingly, it had some science activity exercises which could be done safely and independently by pre-K students. I was so happy that remote learning can be such fun, and science-technology,  engineering, art, and math can be done in remote mode. As I teach pre-K, the LMS that I was about to choose had to be colorful, and engaging. Among all LMSs, I chose the Seesaw because it met all the needed requirements. There are a lot of fun activities and it is a special learning management tool for kids. Some of my students who did the exercises were very interested in the activities created on the seesaw.   I decided to use seesaw as an additional learning tool for my students. However, I believe this online...

Article review

During Our course in ILTEP, we went through many articles about technologies in education, learning theories in the digital era, and online learning with a variety of LMSs that help to learn to be effective in an online mode. The article that I want to reflect on is about general learning theories and connectivism theory which is recognized as a learning theory for the digital era. It is undeniable that the need for online learning is increased rapidly during quarantine time last two years in my country. In western countries this mode of teaching is not new but, here in Uzbekistan, the need for qualitative online teaching methods is indisputable. During my lessons in ILTEP, we learned about the theory of connectivism which is known as a theory that defines online learning. There were three main theories behaviorism, cognitivism, and constructivism in the field of education. They were developed in the beginning of 20 th century far before the technological age. Those times teache...
